Small Acreage Involvement Increases One of the most rapid areas of housing development in Albany County is in small acreage subdivision. Generally speaking, these tracts range from 1 to 100 acres with the average being around 5 to 10 acres. Many of these landowners are new to range management and other general resource management guidelines, and therefore unaware of the damage they can cause by overgrazing large animals until it is too late. LRCD is aggressively increasing involvement in educating small acreage landowners in appropriate land management practices.
Small Acreage Issue Team Tony joined the small acreage Issue team, comprised of land managers around the state in agencies like the Cooperative Extension Service, Wyoming State Forestry, other conservation districts, Wyoming Audubon, and the NRCS. The team meets every two or three months to evaluate small acreage issues, plan outreach activities, and select topics for upcoming articles in the increasingly popular Barnyards andBackyards magazine. Tony is also an editor and contributing author for Barnyards and Backyards. |

Rural Cost Share Program Assists in Implementing projects Many of the landowners that LRCD aids in developing a grazing plan utilize our Rural Cost Share Program to improve their rangelands. The district has financially assisted in cross fencing, or creation of smaller pastures for rotational grazing practices and other types of range improvement commonly used on larger ranches, such as reseeding and aerating. |
