Rangeland Improvements

The district has worked with several agencies and individuals within the district to implement rangeland improvements for enhanced wildlife habitat and livestock grazing distribution.

List of projects implemented by the district:

· ~ 4,000’ of fence construction (USFS)

· 6 spring developments (USFS)

· 2 revegetation/seeding projects

List of technical assistance provided by the district:

· 5 spring developments (USFS, BLM, private)

· 1 water pipeline (BLM, private)

· 3 revegetation/seeding projects

· 4 wildlife habitat projects

Native Grass Seed Mixes

The district has worked with the two local feed stores to develop a native grass seed mix to be used in revegetation and reclamation projects.  The seed was selected to be compatible with local vegetation and be adapted to Albany County’s harsh climate.  Several different grass seed mixes were designed to meet various soil types for the area.

Equipment Rental

LRCD offers several pieces of equipment for rental for rangeland improvement practices.  These pieces of equipment are often used by both the district and individuals for improving the health of their properties and rangelands.  We offer a No-Till seed drill and Aer-way aerator, which are the two most popular pieces of equipment to rent, and also a 10 foot seed drill and a poly–pipe welder.

Coordinated Resource Management

Coordinated Resource Management (CRM) is a process that helps people manage natural resources in a productive, environmentally-friendly, and economical manner, for the long term. It is a coalition building process which involves those using the resources in the decision making about those resources. Thus, CRM integrates local wisdom and technical expertise, while taking advantage of group synergy. (Society for Range Management)

Red Mountain CRM

LRCD is involved with numerous government agencies and individuals in developing a CRM plan for the Red Mountain area south of Woods Landing, WY.  This is an ongoing project in developing wildlife habitat and grazing management plans with an emphasis on improving general overall resource health of the area.  One of the main focuses of the project is increasing Greater Sage Grouse populations and their habitats.  This area is home to one of the last sage grouse leks in southern Albany County.
