Laramie Rivers Conservation District will host their 21st annual tree sale on May 2nd and 3rd at the Albany County Fairgrounds. We have added three new species to the order forms. The first is Mountain Mahogany; this shrub will flower in June and July. It grows best on drier rocky sites. Mountain Mahogany provides excellent browse for deer as well as valuable habitat for birds. The second addition to this year’s sale is Kremmling Cottonwood. This is a good broadleaf tree to plant on our higher elevation sites. The Kremmling will do well up an elevation of 8,500 feet. Lastly, we have added Subalpine Fir. This conifer can grow as tall as 100 feet. Varieties of wildlife utilize the Subalpine Fir for browse, cover, and forage species.
To assist in the replacement of trees at the higher elevations, that have come under attack from the mountain pine bark beetle, we are going to carry a large supply of Lodgepole Pine the year. We would like to encourage all those that are interested in our tree sale to place their orders as soon as possible. Some of the species that we have listed may be in high demand, so the sooner you order the better chance we can fulfill your request.
We would also like to remind everybody that this is a good time to purchase tree survival aids such as weedbarrier, hydrosource and fertilizer. We will start taking orders on January 28th via mail orders and in person at 408 Howe Rd. Laramie, WY. |
